Sandwell Valley Project
About three/four months ago we submitted a proposal for an Arts Grant around the Sandwell Valley area, involving art workshops with three primary schools. We received news a couple of weeks ago that we were successful with the application, so I've decided to keep a visual diary of our work in progress.
The project involves two writers and myself creating a series of poems and visual images, through working with local primary schools. "The project will celebrate Sandwell Valley Country Park, and its place as a green space for conservation, education and recreation in the borough of Sandwell".
To begin with we must make several trips to the park to create work ourselves out of a response to the Valley, and then using this work as a starting point for children to respond and create work in the same way...
Also, once the initial stage of drawing and observation is complete, the children will be encouraged to create characters/creatures from their imaginations that may well live in the Nature Reserve, for example: The Man of the Wood, or, The Lady of the Waters etc.
