This painting is part of an exhibition I'm showing at the Artwork Cafe in Birmingham entitled,
Faces. It also serves the purpose of self promotion in terms of securing some editorial work.
Its only recently I've begun to appreciate the work of Tom Waits, but in a short space of time its had a profound influence. I greatly admire skilful story tellers, people of erudite and eloquent dispositions. Mr Waits fits this criteria very nicely indeed. The concept I had in mind is that Tom Waits symbolises the mythological trickster, the fairground master, the epitome of the carnivalesque, and perhaps the harlequin...
