The Morrigan
This pic is based on a character from Celtic mythology known as the Morrigan. The Morrigan translates as 'phantom' but she is better described in basic terms as a kind of malevolent goddess. In the text she is depicted as this haunting but beautiful 'witch' who lingers on the fringes of the battlefield, deciding on a whim who shall live and who shall die. Her animal familiar is the raven and she is often symbolised as such. Although its quite a busy pic your eye is inevitably drawn back to the Morrigan which pleases me as I intended this even from my initial sketches. The subtle vaginal shape to the branches surrounding the Morrigan represents the fact that she is sometimes referred to as the fertility goddess.
