John Lee Hooker

I finished this painting at approximately midnight Thursday, and I'm pretty pleased how its turned out. I must (shamefully) admit that I didn't know who JL Hooker was before this commission, so it was a learning curve in more ways than usual. I spent a whole day watching footage of him on 'youtube' and listening to his music before I even lifted a pencil. I think it helped, even if only in a fleeting way. I'm finding painting in oils, particularly people/skin tones, very enjoyable and very flexible.
The eyes of the central JL follow you across the room, which I'm really pleased about, even though it was a complete fluke...
