Outer Dark process

I recently set myself the challenge of illustrating the covers of three Cormac McCarthy novels. I find his work hugely interesting, dark, disturbing, and exquisitely written. His prose is like a voice calling to us from a distant, but distinct time, very much in the vain of Melville and Faulkner. My paintings do not do his novels justice by a long shot of course, but I felt compelled to give it a go. I enjoyed this painting very much, not least as it reacquainted me with the book again. I'm still working on one of them, but I hope to finish it soon...
