Lucifers Playground process...

This is the one that caused the most concern in terms of the composition. I had originally intended to have two children, one of them even younger and seated on the floor. I also had the idea of there being a window nearby, with a clear blue sky visible. In the end I decided to keep it murky, claustrophobic, muted. I still think the window idea might of worked, but perhaps its more haunting with no natural light. I also think having just the one child as oppose to two says more about the loneliness of it, the loss/discarding of the imagination. The landscape format of the painting was a conscious decision, as I wanted it to feel like the viewer themselves are watching through a t.v. screen. For me, this painting represents the most important statement in the series...
