St Giles Hospice book illustration roughs...
Over the last several weeks I've had the privilege and pleasure to be working with a team of artists at St Giles Hospice, Lichfield. The project involved meeting patients of the hospice and discussing various aspects of their lives- a celebration of memory if you will. Each workshop involved a different topic- favourite places they have visited, vivid memories, objects of importance, stories they have accumulated over a life, etc. Each piece of prose or poetry was collected, then I had to 'respond' to this info by creating paintings and drawings based on the text. It was to be my interpretation...It's been a challenge to say the least. My images cannot hope to possibly contend with their memories, but hopefully they will add something of value to the overall atmosphere of nostalgia surrounding the project. The book is to be published later this year...
